This poem about a yearning for adventure and escape from the monotony of modern life comes from Flinders University media student Nick Gibbs, a keen music fan and amateur fisherman, and strong supporter of the Australian Conservation Foundation.
Just want to sleep all day,
Don’t care about my pay,
Excitement, I need some,
Monotony breeds boredom.
Ancient Tribes had it right,
Perhaps cannibals aside,
No clue on rent or bills,
No child anxiety pills.
Sick of life in the West
I think we’ve failed the test
Evolution in reverse,
This Modern world’s a curse.
That’s it I’m going rouge,
I’m kicking off these brogues,
9 to 5 left me scathed,
One foot in the grave,
So what exactly is my plan?
India, Peru or Japan?
Globalisation’s got me beat,
Can’t find a cure for itchy feet.
