This week’s Poet’s Corner contribution is from Peter Groves.
When the heat
of a summer night
is the embrace of life
without boundaries
and the slightest breeze
carries thought
away from the logic
of the senses,
I imagine
a stretch of road
riding hills
as prehistoric waves
rolling towards
a union of heaven
and earth,
sweeping past
suburban homes
where subject
to the clockwork
of routine,
desires are bound up together
in sleep,
leaving streetlights
to mark the edge
of civilization
while shining the way
to break the grip
of time
and bring stars
closer to reach.
Peter Groves lives in Sydney. A former federal public servant, poetry has been a lifelong interest that has led to active participation in various writing groups such as the WEA Writers Group, and currently his membership of the Pennant Hills Poetry Group.
