Dozens of people allegedly illegally working as prostitutes have been charged after Queensland police busted a syndicate operating brothels in motels across the state.
A Brisbane man, 65, and woman, 57, were charged with running unlawful prostitution businesses in Mackay, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Brisbane.
Detectives also charged 25 people with the provision of unlawful prostitution following a two-year investigation into the alleged syndicate.
“Illegal operators not only put the health and safety of their workers and customers at risk, but they are also profiting from illegal activity,” Detective Acting Inspector Brad Phelps said on Wednesday.
The pair accused of operating the illegal prostitution ring is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 18.
