A 31-year-old man has died, and a police dog and senior constable are injured, after a police incident in Toowoomba.
Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission will oversee a police investigation into a death in custody in Toowoomba in Southern Queensland last night.
Police say they attended a house at Warana Avenue in Mount Lofty after reports of a break and enter.
A senior constable from the Darling Downs Dog Squad and police dog Turbo were among the first on the scene.
It is alleged a 31-year-old man at the premises attacked the constable with a pair of scissors, causing a laceration to his face and a minor stab wound to his upper body.
Police say the man then stabbed the dog multiple times in the chest.
Officers tasered the 31-year-old and arrested him.
Police say the man was treated at the scene but suffered a medical episode on his way to hospital and was pronounced dead at about 8:00pm.
Turbo remains in a serious but stable condition at a local vet, while the 32-year-old senior constable received treatment for minor injuries.
The Ethical Standards Command is investigating, and the state coroner has been advised.
