Gold Coast detectives investigating the murder of Shane Bowden, 48, have released CCTV images of two people and two cars linked his shooting death in October last year.

Bowden was shot 21 times with a machine gun while sitting in his car at his Pimpama apartment complex after he got home from the gym.

The former Mongol turned Finks bikie gang member had already escaped an attempt on his life in Melbourne in July.

Police say multiple suspects cased and conducted surveillance on Bowden’s Gold Coast unit and his car in the lead-up to his death in October.

Detectives have released footage of two suspects placing a GPS tracker on his car three weeks before he was shot dead.

“CCTV footage released today from the unit complex where Bowden was staying shows two vehicles of interest used by the suspects as part of their surveillance of Bowden,” police said in a statement on Friday.

“CCTV also shows two people walking towards Bowden’s black BMW before one suspect then lies on the ground at the rear of Bowden’s car and is believed to place a tracking device on the car while the other stands guard.”

Detectives are asking anyone who recognises the two suspects or the cars to contact them.

Last week, investigators offered protection from prosecution and a $250,000 reward to any accomplices to Bowden’s shooting who could help solve the crime.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said last week the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang was actively involved in Bowden’s death.

The killers may have been motivated by a “personal vendetta” after Bowden shifted his allegiance from the Mongols to rival gang the Finks, he said.

Before his Mongols stint, Bowden was part of the Finks “terror team” and jailed over the Gold Coast’s “ballroom blitz” brawl in which three people were shot and two stabbed in 2006.

He was also fined $750 for causing a COVID-19 scare when he breached health restrictions by travelling from Victoria to Queensland in October after lying on his border declaration.
