Police have declared the burnt out Southport home a crime scene, following the fire on Tuesday evening.

Media reports said the fire started in a garage underneath the home and that the garage door had been forced open.

One person was taken to hospital with an injured ankle and another person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said crews were still working late on Tuesday to contain the blaze more than five hours after it started.
