Sunshine Coast police have charged a man with domestic violence murder following the death of a 46-year-old woman whose body was found in a luxury Pelican Waters resort room on Valentine’s Day.
Sunshine Coast detectives allege that the 46-year-old Burpengary woman was killed by the 50-year-old Bli Bli man in their room at the resort on Mahogany Dr, Pelican Waters, on Monday.
The pair had been staying at the resort for a social function over the weekend and staff did a welfare check at about 3.35pm.
They found the woman on the bed “covered in blood” with wounds on her arms and the man unconscious nearby, Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen said on Tuesday.
“It would be very traumatic for anyone attending…this is a tragedy that has occurred here on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
“We have a woman who was lost her life, we have a male person who has now been charged in relation to murder, so there’s going to be a lot of mourning.”
The accused was conscious by the time paramedics arrived, and police arrested him at the scene.
An autopsy is now underway and it will be alleged the pair were in an intimate relationship.
The man has been charged with domestic violence murder and refused bail, and he’s due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
