A uniquely designed tower rooftop, featuring a crown that resembles an inverted bird’s nest, is likely to be one of the most talked-about additions to Woolloongabba’s ever-changing skyline.

Local developer Pellicano has applied to radically redesign a tower rooftop as part of its massive South City Square precinct on Logan Rd.
The $700 million project, which when completed will include seven separate buildings, is one of the most anticipated in an area of Brisbane that will benefit most from the 2032 Olympics.
The redesign is part of the project’s 5B tower, an 18-storey building that will include apartments and commercial space as well as a new Hyatt Place hotel.

Its signature feature is a rooftop “nest” pergola that will sit above the complex’s pool and recreation area and slightly overhang the edge of the tower.
Notably, the minor changes proposed in this application have been devised through a rigorous design competition between various architectural firms,” application documents lodged with Brisbane City Council state.
“The winning design developed by Woods Bagot was carefully chosen given its exemplar design which also successfully addressed key functional outcomes.
“The proposal includes a truly unique feature when viewed from the skyline in the form of the tower crown. The crown offers an ovoid shape that is screened by a pergola structure. The pergola structure gives the crown the ‘nest’ like appearance that is unlike any rooftop within the wider South City Square precinct.”
