BEDA picks up JC

The Brisbane Economic Development Agency has appointed former Powderfinger bass guitarist John “JC” Collins to its board.

After the Brisbane band broke up Collins kicked off popular music venue The Triffid, at New Farm and was a backer of the Fortitude Music Hall in the Valley.

BEDA chief executive Anthony Ryan said Collins would help Brisbane develop a global profile as an entertainment and live music city.

BOCOG gets EGM

The bureaucrat who led the Brisbane Olympics bid team has been appointed as the exective general manager of operations.

Kerry Petersen will take on the role to lead the organising committee’s role in venue overlay design and integration, transport, security and other key operational requirements.

Committee chair Andrew Liveris said Petersen’s experience in the state Government and leading the bid team meant she was well placed for the role.

She was previously the associate director general of the 2032 taskforce and deputy director general for the Office of the Commonwealth Games.

Levison stands down at Mighty Craft

Robin Levison has stood down as chairman of ASX listed drinks company Mighty Craft.

Levison, who heads Brisbane commercialisation company PPK, took on the role because of his direct involvement in the company and the need to help it grow.

He has told the company he would retain his shareholding.

Mackay looks to Grundy

Al Grundy has been appointed chief executive officer of Mackay Isaac Tourism.

He has 26 years of experience in the tourism sector including as chair of Tourism Whitsundays and as a councillor on the Whitsunday Regional Council.

His role starts on October 17.

Barr gets ANO seat

Linda Barr has been appointed as a non-executive director of Advance Zinctek.

Barr replaces Laurie Lefcourt who will retire at the annual general meeting. She will chair the audit committee.

The company said Barr had 30 years of experience in accounting and management roles.

Education’s new assistant DG

Jenny Ryan has been appointed as assistant director general (services and infrastructure planning) with the Queensland Department of Education.

Ryan will lead the development of service and infrastructure strategies and plans and ensure the division.

She has 35 years within Government-owned corporations.

The Education Department has also appointed Tania Porter as deputy director general of early childhood. She started in the role last week.

Falloon quits Nine

Nine Entertainment told the market that Nick Falloon would not seek re-election as a director at his AGM in November.

Falloon has been a director since the merger with Fairfax in 2018.

He will remain chair of Domain Holdings, which is 60 per cent owned by Nine.

Shannon for NFF job

Richard Shannon said he was starting a new position as executive officer to the National Farmers Federation horticulture council.

Shannon has previously worked a manager of policy and advocacy at Growcom and was founder of Conscience Consulting as well as a policy officer with the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.

Deputy chief magistrate appointed

Stephen Courtney has been appointed Queensland’s second Deputy Chief Magistrate.

Courtney replaced former deputy Janelle Brassington who was appointed Chief Magistrate and judge of the District Court, replacing outgoing Chief Magistrate Judge Terry Gardiner, who moved to Queensland’s District Court.

KPMG’s new carbon executive

Cle-Anne Gabriel announced that she was taking on a new role as head of decarbonisation transformation at KPMG.

Gabriel was the founder and director of ThinkZero, a carbon literacy course for organisations.

She also worked as an executive consultant at RPM Global.

McGrady heads to Hawsons

Former Queensland Resources Minister Tony McGrady has won a board seat at Hawsons Iron, a Brisbane company in the early stages of developing a major iron ore project near Broken Hill.

McGrady, who has been involved in the mining sector in one form or another for decades, would become a non-executive director with Hawsons from next week.

The Mount Isa-based McGrady, who also served as the city’s mayor for four years, was Mines and Energy Minister between 1998 and 2001.

Hawsons chair Dave Woodall said the experience McGrady would bring to the company stemmed from the years he presided over the developments in the Mount Isa-Carpentaria Minerals Province, including the Century zinc mine.

Woodall said McGrady also brought experience in developing relationships with indigenous groups.

McGrady would replace a retiring Jon Parker on the board.
