12-hour standoff after man breaks into Brisbane home, runs amok with sledgehammer

A man who allegedly barricaded himself in a room while armed with a sledgehammer has been charged after a near 12-hour siege in inner-city Brisbane.

Queensland Police were called to a property on Park St in Spring Hill about 3.30pm on Sunday after receiving reports a man armed with a hammer was inside.

They were told when they arrived the man had barricaded himself inside a room.

Police said the 39-year-old man from Bundamba was taken into custody about 2am on Monday.

He faces several charges, including entering a dwelling and committing an offence, and possessing tainted property.

The man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Monday. No one was injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, a Queensland man has been charged with attempted murder after a young woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times before fleeing to another home.

Police allege the 23-year-old woman was stabbed during an altercation between the pair in the far north Queensland town of Innisfail on Saturday.

She was later found by police at a different home with multiple wounds to her upper body.

The woman was taken to Innisfail Hospital, and later flown to Townsville Hospital with non-life threatening stabbing injuries.

About 11pm on Saturday, the 32-year-old man arrived at the Innisfail Police Station with a wound to his hand. He was taken to Innisfail Hospital for treatment, police said,

Police later attended the property in Innisfail where they declared a crime scene.

The 32-year-old has been charged with attempted murder (domestic violence offence) and will appear in Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday.
