A man is in hospital with critical injuries after being crushed by a weight in a Spring Hill gym.
It remains unclear exactly what happened, but it appears the man was struck by a weight just before 6am (local time) on Thursday, Queensland Ambulance clinical director Lachlan Parker said.
The gym is understood to operate without supervision at that time of morning.
“His injuries were very severe, so we dispatched two crews, including a critical care paramedic,” Parker said.
Bystanders began first aid before paramedics arrived. The man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was later transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
“He was, like most people, just working out in the gym … and for whatever reason … a weight has fallen on his body and he suffered serious injuries,” Mr Parker said.
The man was transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson would not elaborate on how the man was injured or what type of weight was involved in the incident. The spokesperson did not disclose the man’s age or the name of the gym.
More details to come.
