Star pleads guilty to buying casino chips with credit cards
Embattled casino operator Star Entertainment has pleaded guilty to seven charges under the Casino Control Act.
The company, which owns the Sydney casino, The Star, as well as the Treasury and Gold Coast casinos, has faced a year of scandal involving revelations out of two inquiries.
Those revelations which included money laundering and allowing gamblers banned from Sydney to continue gambling on the Gold Coast, led to fines in NSW and Queensland of $100 million.
Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said the charges related to Section 66 of the Act which prohibited the purchase of gambling chips with a credit card.
The offences occurred between June 2, 2017, and December 29, 2018, and between March 23, 2022, and April 2, 2022.
Sentencing is set down for June 2, 2023.
