A runaway kangaroo (possibly a wallaby) has been successfully captured in Austria, after having been spotted hopping around on a country road.
Police officers spotted the animal in a field near Hollabrunn, a small town near Vienna on Monday, authorities reported.
It was anaesthetised and handed over to the operator of a kangaroo farm after being seen to by a vet, they said.
The marsupial had been sighted for the first time on Sunday on a country road.
The owner had also been identified, a police spokesman said.
It was being investigated whether he had legally owned the animal, which is typically native to Australia.
The incident prompted some Austrians to wear T-shirts saying “there are no kangaroos in Australia.
