The decision was expected to generate about $150 million in economic benefits for the region, according to Mayor Mark Jamieson.

Genpact expected the new jobs would be in finance, insurance, IT and administration. The decision comes as the coast’s Maroochydore city centre takes shape.

Jamieson said Genpact’s selection of the Sunshine Coast was another boost for the region’s and the state’s growing financial and professional services sector, delivering more local jobs and flexibility for its employees.

He said Genpact did a national assessment to find the best location. This involved requesting and evaluating key metrics including salary costs, staff turnover rates, premises rental costs and payroll tax rates.

“At the end of the exhaustive process not only was Queensland a preferred location, but its crowning jewel for business, innovation and industry, the Sunshine Coast, also rose to the top,” Jamieson said.

Sunshine Coast Council put forward a business case to assist in the location decision-making process. Austrade and Trade and Investment Queensland were also involved.

Genpact country manager for Australia and New Zealand Richard Morgan said the company would continue to bring digital transformation to its clients’ backyards.

“We’d like to thank the Queensland Government for their collaboration and support in helping us select the Sunshine State as a destination to continue to drive value for our shareholders, clients, communities, and employees,” he said.

The Sunshine Coast already has some big corporates like Youi and Jamieson said it was continuing to attract corporate investors who saw real economic growth prospects.

“I am pleased to welcome our next globally listed, multinational public company into our region’s unique entrepreneurial ecosystem,” Jamieson said.

“Undertaking a competitive national site selection process and determining the Sunshine Coast is the best place in Australasia, going forward, speaks volumes to what we are creating within the region and the game-changing infrastructure that supports these opportunities – the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Cable, Maroochydore City Centre and Sunshine Coast Airport expansion to name a few.”
