Exec Appointments: Tropical north’s new tourism boss

A former Tourism Australia boss has headed to the tropical north, Hawsons Iron shuffles its board seats and the QRU gets a new executive, and more in this week’s appointments.

Tourism boss for the north

Experience Co Limited chief executive officer John O’Sullivan has been appointed chair of Tourism Tropical North Queensland at the annual general meeting this week.

He has been a director of TTNQ since May 2021 and a former managing director of Tourism Australia. He replaces Ken Chapman who has completed his three-year term.

Nikki Giumelli, who was elected to the board and Ben Woodward, who was re-elected. Giumelli is a tourism project manager through her business Green Arrow Consultancy and Woodward is the director of sales and marketing for The CaPTA Group.

Kirkwood assumes chair at Hawsons

Brisbane iron ore hopeful Hawsons Iron has shuffled its top leadership with the appointment of Jeremy Kirkwood as chair.

He takes over from interim chair Bryan Granzien who will shift back to his former role as managing director.

Kirkwood was previously a managing director at Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley and Austock. He is currently chair of Joyce Corporation and a director of Talisman Mining.

QRU gets operations boss

The Queensland Rugby Union has appointed Jane Ballantyne as its chief operating officer.

Her experience has been in sports marketing, commercial and consumer brand management and has held leadership roles with the AFL, Racing Victoria, Football Australia, Australian Grand Prix Corporation and News Corp.

She is also the board of Equestrian Australia and Oxoil.

Alpha HPA adds a CFO

Alpha HPA has appointed Craig Jones as its chief financial officer.

He has previously been an advisor to the company in relation to its project financing. He also worked for ANZ in Sydney.

The company is headquartered in Sydney but its operations are in Gladstone.

New airport boss for Sunny Coast

Sunshine Coast Airport has appointed Chris Mills as chief executive.

Mills has experience in tourism having been the interim CEO of Experience Gold Coast. Before that, he was CEO at Queensland Airports Limited between 2015 and 2022. He is also a Board member of Tourism and Events Queensland.

White picks Sheahan

White Energy has appointed Greg Sheahan as chief executive.

The appointment means Brian Flannery will step down from his role as executive chair and CEO, but will remain as a non executive chair.

Sheahan is a barrister and geologist and Flannery said his experience in native title would be valuable to the company.

New Peak’s new boss

New Peak Metals has appointed David Mason as interim chief executive.

Mason is a current director of the company and was previously its chief executive.

His appointment follows the resignation of Boyd White.

Mason will remain in the role until a permanent CEO was found.
