Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) said it drove a record $1.4 billion in economic activity in the last financial year, according to a new report.

The agency works closely with government and private sectors to enhance the city’s visitation and investment.

BEDA CEO Anthony Ryan said in the State of the City Report that collaboration across business, industry and city leaders was vital.

“This year we’ve seen local businesses scale globally, international investors choose Brisbane, and our visitor economy smash records – all through collaboration and ambition,” Ryan said.

From 2024-25, the agency’s business growth and attraction programs garnered more than $1 billion in Brisbane’s economy, marking the agency’s biggest year ever.

Events including conferences and strategic global marketing were also responsible for bringing more than 9.4 million visitors to Brisbane who introduced more than $11.3 billion to the city’s economy.

In 2024-25, BEDA supported major events including Bluey’s World, NRL Magic Round and the Australian Tourism Exchange bringing travel media and industry leaders to the city.

BEDA initiatives provided support for more than 11,700 local jobs while also creating 600 new roles.

The agency’s campaign, Brisbane Favours the Bold, generated $80 million by reaching 30 million people and drove site visits to Visit Brisbane by 37 per cent, BEDA said.

Another of BEDA’s initiatives, Global MedTech Accelerator and Future Food, provided support for companies to bring in another $650 million in economic activity.

BEDA also spent $68 million on Cyclone Alfred recovery efforts while delivering 182 workshops and mentoring sessions for local business owners in Brisbane.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said BEDA’s recent efforts would help to establish Brisbane as a global economic force.

“BEDA’s outstanding results are a direct reflection of the city’s bold, united vision to attract investment, grow jobs and showcase Australia’s lifestyle capital to the world,” Schrinner said.

BEDA Chairman Paul Spiro credited the agency’s record year to the expertise and dedication of the BEDA network.

“Brisbane is being recognised globally for its talent, innovation and sustained economic growth – with BEDA leading the charge for the benefit of every resident, entrepreneur and investor,” Spiro said.
