Private investment of more than half a billion dollars is set to transform The Spit on the Gold Coast in a state government master plan, released today.

The State Government on Wednesday said the Carter’s Basin redevelopment would create a marine precinct with more than 100 new commercial marina berths.

It would also include support for the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Operative, short-stay accommodation, retail spaces, and upgraded public areas, including boardwalks and improved pedestrian connections.

Deputy Premier and Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said the development would tackle the shortage of commercial marina berths and support the local fishing industry.

The second project, Village East Resort, was expected to transform the last beachfront site at The Spit into a coastal resort featuring hotel rooms, short-stay villas, ground-floor dining, and spaces for community events and markets.

A new public plaza would link Seaworld Drive to the Gold Coast Oceanway, complemented by upgraded amenities and a public car park.

Bleijie said construction was expected to start shortly after the state government delivered development approvals, with public facilities expected to be created ahead of the resort’s completion.

“These projects are delivering the Fresh Start for Queensland we promised and creating a lifestyle that matches our state’s potential,” Bleijie said.

Member for Surfers Paradise John-Paul Langbroek described the plan as a “game changer” and sent a message that the Gold Coast and Queensland was “open for business”.

Pelligra Giannarelli Group director Dion Giannerelli said the vision for Carter’s Basin was to create a thriving marine precinct that respected the area’s heritage and embraced its future potential.

“We are committed to working closely with the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Operative and other stakeholders to ensure this development meets the needs of the community and delivers long-term benefits for the region,” Giannerelli said.

Vitale Property Group managing director Chris Vitale said the Village East project reflected a long-term commitment to delivering a world-class resort that balanced tourism, public access and environmental considerations.

“The focus is on creating a well-considered global destination that enhances the public realm and integrates thoughtfully with its setting,” Mr Vitale said.
