Kylie Minogue has achieved her first Christmas No.1.
The 57-year-old pop star has topped the Christmas charts in Britain for the first time with XMAS, meaning Minogue is also the first woman to have No.1 singles across four different decades.
“It’s hard to put into words how special this feels,” Melbourne-born Minogue — who has already sold more than 80 million records during her career — told Official Charts.
“Being Christmas No.1 really is the most wonderful gift. I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been listening and sharing the love and I’m wishing you all a very merry Christmas.”
Minogue is also the first solo female artist in 12 years to top Britain’s charts at Christmas. Her hit single leads the way this year ahead of Last Christmas by Wham!, and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Meanwhile, Minogue recently confessed that she suffered “really bad migraines” while making her Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) album.
The chart-topping pop star returned to the studio to revamp her 2015 festive record Kylie Christmas and add four new tunes to the track list — but battled terrible headaches during the sessions.
“When I listen to the songs now, it feels really good. It felt like Christmas, even if I was in the studio in tears sometimes because I was having really bad migraines!” Minogue told NME.
She also admitted that she had hoped XMAS would top the UK charts.
“It would be amazing, but I honestly did not think about that when we first went into this promo. I’ve been so focused on everything else, wrapping everything up and all the other mechanics, but now that we’re here,” she said.
“It would be nice. But also I’m cool with it regardless because it’s a very coveted spot and crazy things happen around Christmas, so I don’t think it is that predictable.”
