A high-rise office block is being transformed for Brisbane residents in a much earlier stage of their careers.

A 27-storey government office is being switched to student accommodation in Brisbane with its developer claiming the project is a blueprint for adaptive re-use.
The building in George Street is being turned into a 1200-bed student accommodation tower to be operated by Unilodge and built by Dexus.
Dexus project director James Curtin said the accommodation set to open in Semester Two in 2026 would create “critical student accommodation located steps from Queensland’s leading universities”.
The conversion included custom-designed community spaces, including a cinema, games room and wellness facilities, that Curtin said would foster a “vibrant community and supporting wellbeing”.
A colourful new façade was expected to reflect Brisbane’s distinctive local sandstone, with painting works to commence before Christmas.
“41 George Street demonstrates what is possible with adaptive reuse,” Curtin said.
“We are pleased with the progress to date and expect the first floors to be completed early in the new year.”
Dexus was also working on the Waterfront Brisbane development in preparing the city for the 2032 Olympics.
Marquette Properties CEO Toby Lewis said the new accommodation would address “much-needed housing for domestic and foreign students studying at Queensland University of Technology and other Brisbane CBD universities.
