A man has faced court charged with murder over the death of a newborn baby more than a year ago.

The three-week-old boy died in Queensland Children’s Hospital on July 22, 2024, from internal injuries, police said.

Family members admitted him on July 18, 2024, in a serious condition, but with no obvious injuries.

“Sadly and unfortunately, that three-week-old child passed away four days later,” Detective Acting Inspector Glen Antonie said on Monday.

The boy’s death triggered a lengthy police investigation.

On Monday, 25-year-old Hank Shannon Sherriff was charged with the infant’s murder.

Investigators allege the baby was injured at a home in Greenbank in Logan, south of Brisbane, before relatives took him to hospital.

Detective Acting Inspector Glen Antonie said police were satisfied Sherriff’s alleged offending met the threshold for a murder charge.

Sherriff’s case was briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 25.
