Police have shot and killed a man after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife in Brisbane’s east.

A man has been shot dead by police after allegedly threatening officers while armed with a knife in Brisbane’s east.
Police said they were called to a home on Thurston Street, in Tingalpa, to conduct a welfare check on Tuesday morning, about 10.30am.
Officers tried to negotiate with a 21-year-old man, who lived at the address, but he armed himself with a knife, police said.
He then made threats toward police and was shot by officers, police said. He died at the scene.
South Brisbane District Officer, Acting Chief Superintendent Heath McQueen said it was a “devastating incident” at a press conference held this afternoon.
“This is a tragic incident,” he said.
“My thoughts are with all the officers involved, emergency services in attendance and the family of the man involved in this incident today.”
McQueen also revealed a police officer had sustained minor injuries, but could not provide further details.
“These type of incidents are a reminder of the inherent danger that our police face across the state on a daily basis,” he said.
“These incidents are often dynamic in nature and split-second decisions need to be made.”
McQueen was “confident” the use of force was appropriate and multiple police were at the property at the time of the shooting.
He said the incident was being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
