A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a Gold Coast crime spree came to a crashing end – in a backyard pool.

Police said they were called to a property in Acero Court, Nerang, following reports a man had entered the residence and stolen keys to a BMW after being disturbed by the occupant about 1am on Wednesday morning.

They said the man then fled in the allegedly stolen car and forced a taxi driving in front to pull over.

He then threatened the driver and demanded fuel, police claimed.

According to police, the stolen BMW then rammed the taxi and caused it to roll onto its side.

The taxi’s driver and passenger were assessed by paramedics but were uninjured.

Meanwhile, the BMW continued along Beaudesert Nerang Road, where it crashed into a fence and parked horse float.

Police said the driver then fled on foot to a neighbouring property, where he attempted to steal a black Nexus car – but ended up in a pool while allegedly trying to escape.

He was arrested by police and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.

Investigations continue, police said.
