Alleged stalker charged over explicit deepfake posters targeting Qld women
Police have thrown the book at a man accused of putting women’s faces on explicit sexual images then posting them in public places along with their full names.
A man who allegedly superimposed women’s faces on sexual imagery using artificial intelligence technology before posting them publicly has been charged with a slew of offences.
Police became aware of the images in May after one was posted in a public venue in Gatton, in the Lockyer Valley region.
The posters were also displayed in multiple other places and date back as far as 2021.
They allegedly featured victims’ faces superimposed onto the bodies of women depicted performing explicit sexual acts.
The victims’ full names, social media usernames and employment details were also allegedly included alongside false claims identifying them as sex workers.

To date, detectives have identified eight alleged victims.
The investigation highlights the significant harm that can be caused when artificial intelligence technology is used to target and humiliate innocent people, Ipswich Detective Acting Inspector Tim Martin said.
“The victims in this matter were subjected to deeply distressing and highly personal attacks through the creation and public display of AI-generated intimate images. No one should have to experience this type of offending,” he said on Friday.
“If you become aware of this type of material, we encourage you not to share it. Instead report it to police so we can investigate and prevent further harm to the community.”

Detectives raided the home at Cleveland on Wednesday, seizing a number of electronic devices, printers and pre-prepared AI-generated posters.
Officers also found and seized an electronic control weapon, three long firearms and 25 rounds of ammunition.
The 52-year-old man has been charged with 43 offences including 27 counts of distributing intimate images.
The charges also include six counts of unlawful stalking, four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and four counts of using a postal service to menace, harass or cause offence.
The man is also charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, and authority required to possess explosives.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 19.
