King Charles approves: Next Queensland Governor named
An esteemed judge has been named Queensland’s 28th Governor following approval from King Charles in the United Kingdom.
Justice Thomas Bradley has been appointed Queensland’s next governor.
Justice Bradley will replace Jeanette Young – who has served five years in the role – when her term expires on November 1.
The announcement follows His Majesty King Charles’s approval.
Premier David Crisafulli, who wrote to Buckingham Palace in May, said Justice Bradley was a strong choice to serve Queensland in the role.
“Justice Bradley has had a distinguished legal career in service of our state and will bring experience and honour to his appointment as Queensland’s Governor,” Crisafulli said in a statement.
“Born in Far North Queensland, Justice Bradley understands the unique challenges of our decentralised state and will help unify Queenslanders under our common experiences.
“As he has during his career, he will help shine a light on the important work of Queenslanders and communities.”
Justice Bradley served on the Supreme Court since 2018, moving to the Court of Appeal in 2025.
He said it was a “tremendous honour” to be stepping into the role, and said his focus will be ensuring Queenslanders across all communities feel a sense of unity.

“Advocacy for and patronage of a diverse range of Queensland groups is integral to the role and I share the goals of my predecessors to carry out constitutional responsibilities with dignity, fairness, and a commitment to the rule of law,” he said.
“I call to mind all we have in common as Queenslanders: the joy we share in each other’s successes and the comfort we give in each other’s sorrows. I am reminded that, in communities large and small, we are part of a common endeavour.”
Outside of his career in the courts, Justice Bradley has been the Chair of the Brisbane Festival Giving Committee, ambassador for the Pinnacle Foundation, and on the Gallery of Modern Art Foundation Committee.
