Defence engineering firm doubles with expansion
National defence and aerospace industry company Nova Systems has expanded with a facility more than twice the size of the original less than a year after opening.
Due to growing demand from Defence, aerospace and emergency services clients, Nova Systems has created a second facility in Banyo adding to its other location in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
The expansion was expected to significantly increase Nova’s capacity to design, integrate, test and manufacture mission-critical systems, as it builds on its status as a leading provider of engineering and systems integration services.
Highlighting the increasing demand for locally delivered systems integration expertise, Nova Systems CEO Dean Rosenfield said the expansion demonstrated the role the company played in supporting critical national capabilities.
“When we opened the National Systems Integration Centre last year, we established a dedicated capability designed to support the growing complexity of Defence, aerospace and emergency services programs,” Rosenfield said.
He said the company had been able to expand into a facility more than double the size of its first, reflecting the strength of demand.
“This investment enables us to increase capacity, scale our operations and continue delivering innovative solutions that support our customers’ mission-critical objectives,” he said.
The new Integration Centre will support production, including for the company’s stretcher-loading system developed for the Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland fleet.

It would also support specialist mission integration projects supporting organisations including StarFlight and the Royal Australian Navy’s Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Trials Unit (AMAFTU).
“The National Systems Integration Centre gives us the ability to deliver those capabilities at scale while continuing to grow Australia’s sovereign engineering and advanced manufacturing expertise,” Rosenfield said.
It comes as the Queensland Government launches Defence Q, a specialised and refocused platform for defence industry growth, connecting industry with government, strategic partners, supply chains, suitable locations and investment opportunities.
The platform aimed to position Queensland to lead the nation in defence investment, and would support advanced manufacturing, testing and evaluation and the development of high-tech defence systems, such as missiles and autonomous and un-crewed systems.
