Afternoon snack lands P-plate driver in strife
A P-plate driver’s afternoon treat has cost him more than $1000 – and buttered up his future on the road.
A 29-year-old P-plate driver has been fined more than $1000 after police caught him buttering a bagel while driving.
Police say they saw the man steering his Honda HR-V with his knees while preparing his snack on Tor Street, in Newton, on Monday, about 3.50pm.
The car was also found to be unregistered, police said.
The man was fined for driving without due care and attention and also for driving an unregistered vehicle – costing a total of $1,104 and leading to the loss of three demerit points.

Darling Downs District Officer Acting Superintendent Kelly Hanlen said driving always required a driver’s full attention.
“Taking your hands and focus away from the task of driving, even for something as seemingly harmless like preparing food, can have serious consequences,” Hanlen said.
“I want to remind motorists there is no meal, message or other distraction worth risking your safety or the safety of other road users.
“If you’re driving, keep your attention on the road and your hands where they belong – on the wheel.”
