Top drop: Qld crowned with Australia’s best-tasting tap water
Australia’s best-tasting tap water has been revealed, after a blind tasting in Adelaide.
Beautiful one day, perfect the next – and now home of Australia’s best-tasting tap water.
After a national blind-tasting competition in Adelaide, water from Queensland’s Clermont Water Treatment Plant has been declared the nation’s best drop at the 2026 Best Tasting Tap Water competition.
The annual contest is backed by IXOM, a company that works with water utilities to help treat drinking water and wastewater across Australia.
Tasmania finished second, while New South Wales rounded out the top three.
As part of the annual contest, water from suppliers around Australia put their water to the taste test, with judges also assessing colour, clarity and odour.

Isaac Regional Council’s Clermont water treatment plant will now hold the title as the provider of Australia’s best water for the next 12 months.
It will also have the opportunity to represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water tasting competition in West Virginia, USA in February 2027.

Dean Barnett, WIOA Chief Executive Officer, congratulated Isaac Regional Council on its prestigious win.
“This competition highlights the dedication and commitment of the operations staff and their water companies that work tirelessly – often in challenging conditions – to provide their communities with safe, high-quality drinking water every day,” Barnett said.
He said competition, which has become somewhat of a friendly interstate rivalry, also highlights the work of the people behind the taps – who work around the clock to maintain Australia’s water quality.
“IXOM’s commitment to the industry enables us to continue running this competition year after year and celebrate the critical work of water service providers across the country,” Barnett said.
