Glitter, beats and dance moves will light up Museum of Brisbane (MoB) this spring as it teams up with Brisbane Festival for The People’s Dancefloor. Running from August 30 to October 6, the sequin-soaked celebration sees Artist in Residence Neridah Waters of Common People Dance Project bring big energy to MoB with a glittering exhibition, all-in workshops and a huge dance showdown in the heart of the city.
Taking centre stage is The People’s Dancefloor exhibition, bringing colour and energy to the Fairfax Gallery from August 30 to October 6. Open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with free entry, the exhibition celebrates the people behind Common People Dance Project. Packed with music and storytelling, it explores themes of connection and belonging, inviting visitors to experience the joy of a community united by dance.
The People’s Dancefloor Workshops will keep the museum moving throughout the spring school holidays from September 20 to October 6. These free, drop-in sessions are open to all ages and abilities, led by Common People Dance Project and powered by iconic dance anthems. From toddlers taking their first twirl to grandparents ready to groove, the workshops are designed to get everyone moving together.
Then on Saturday September 27, it’s the ultimate dance battle as Brisbane’s Northside, Southside, Eastside and Westside bring the heat to the heart of the city. In front of Brisbane City Hall, Head Common Person Neridah Waters will lead the King George Square Dance Showdown where everyone can join in. You’ll learn the moves on the day, team up with your side and own the floor in a celebration of creativity, community and sheer dancefloor joy. No experience needed – just BYO energy, spirit and a splash of sparkle.
The People’s Dancefloor runs from August 30 to October 6 at Museum of Brisbane as part of Brisbane Festival. For more information, head to the MoB website.
