Brisbane cafe veteran Daniel Bowles, known for Hawthorne’s Sister and Gaythorne’s Butter, brings his winning formula to Wavell Heights with Alby’s. Alongside business partner Tiger Hsu, he has transformed the former Kalisto Cafe into a light-filled, 30-seat neighbourhood hub.
The interior blends white and pops of Alby’s signature green with timber accents and simple furnishings, while large windows and a sunroom fill the space with natural light. A fluted-concrete coffee counter by Wild Cypress sits opposite shelves stocked with take-home provisions and cafe merch, and a dedicated kids’ nook opens onto the side deck, creating a welcoming spot for the whole community.
Alby’s menu mirrors the warmth of the space, with all-day breakfast favourites including Butter’s sausage-and-egg muffin, banana bread with espresso butter and plate-sized crumpets with honey. A line-up of inventive toasties – from beef rendang to three-cheese with hot honey – can be enjoyed in-house or on the go, alongside expertly brewed Single O coffee, tea, matcha and iced drinks.
