After 12 years at the helm of beloved Wynnum cafe Dramanti, Dragan and Marija Sestic sold the business in July 2024, physically and mentally drained from the pressures of COVID-19. Despite strong community support, the couple needed a break and entered semi-retirement, eventually rediscovering their passion for hospitality during a European holiday. When the opportunity arose to return to their original Tingal Road location, Dragan and Marija embraced it, relaunching the space as Mad Mile – a fresh, community-focused cafe with a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic and a refined, European-inspired menu. Gone is the dark, industrial feel of Dramanti, replaced with warm design elements, soundproof timber panelling, mint-green accents and a thoughtful layout that reflects their renewed vision. Marija’s new menu blends cafe staples with standout dishes like Turkish eggs and chocolate-custard French toast, alongside fresh-baked sandwiches inspired by Italian paninotecas. While the roasting side is no longer active, Mad Mile serves beans from Ona Coffee – founded by Dragan’s brother – and offers specialty brews, including limited-release filter options. Open seven days a week, the new iteration of the cafe focuses solely on serving the community, a heartfelt return for two much-loved locals.
