Mama Taco, which sits snugly inside the historic Rialto Theatre on Hardgrave Road, is inspired by the taquerias and mezcalerias of Mexico. The West End haunt seeks to shine a spotlight on Mexican cuisine, showcasing its incredible depth and history by employing traditional techniques and drawing influence from several diverse regions, all while adding some contemporary touches. The menu includes tacos filled with ingredients like caramelised cumin eggplant with queso fresco, grass-fed beef rump cap with adobo queso and blueberry, confit duck with crema and sesame jus, and wild lobster with dill crema. Mama Taco also serves a pair of platos (larger plates), such as crispy tortilla salad and ruby snapper aguachile, a five-cheese empanada and chicken tamales with adobo mole chicken. Mama Taco’s libation list is part deep-dive exploration and part educational experience on all things agave. Those keen to embark on a journey through Mexico’s agave scene can sip on flights of mezcal and tequila, with these same bottles (plus other top-notch spirits) filtering into a sharp cocktail list. The rest of the drinks selection includes mole milkshakes, tepache (fermented pineapple, cinnamon and chilli), a short collection of Mexican cervezas and wine (one white and one reds).
