Ruma Rooftop

Perched above New Farm’s Little Lane precinct, Ruma Rooftop is the tropical-leaning sibling to Sunsets Rooftop in Kangaroo Point. Designed in collaboration with Alkot Studio, the breezy elevated venue blends terracotta tones, rammed-earth textures and swaying palms with decorative pieces sourced from Papua New Guinea – a nod to co-owner Katrina’s heritage, with the name ‘Ruma’ meaning home in her mother’s language. The space is split between sun-drenched outdoor seating and a cave-like chef’s table and kitchen, while the menu from chef Felipe Oliveira (ex-Tassis Group) showcases modern Australian share plates threaded with native ingredients – think coconut-cured ceviche, seared scallops on brioche, beef tartare with yuzu kosho and charcoal chicken with lemon myrtle dressing. A concise drinks list leans tropical, with fruit-forward twists on classic cocktails designed to pair with the food and suit long afternoons that stretch into sunset.
