Ascot’s resurgence continued into the latter half of 2024, with the team behind Hamilton’s Middle Eastern-inspired wine bar and bistro, Ach, opening Sarni on Racecourse Road. Described as a New York diner meets European deli, Sarni’s menu features a selection of deli-style sandwiches (made on house-made bread) filled with smoked, cured and chargrilled meats, locally sourced produce, and sliced-to-order cheese from the likes of Fino Foods and Section28 Artisan Cheeses. The menu rotates seasonally and there are plenty of weekly specials, so there’s always something new to try. The sangers are available alongside specialty coffee, salted Vietnamese iced coffee, organic matcha and hojicha, cold-pressed juces, Aether crisp lager, and Sarni’s own hard lemonade.

On Saturday September 27, Sarni will be celebrating its first birthday with a special sandwich menu. The crew has put the call out, asking fans for their favourite sandwiches from the past year, compiling the top vote getters into an extra-special menu available from 10:00 am. The offering will include options like Italian beef made with 2GR wagyu topside sourced from Havericks Meats (only 100 serves available!), chicken katsu, lamb with tzatziki, hoisin barbecue brisket, classic mortadella and caprese salad on focaccia. Sarni will also be slinging sweet treats made by talented pastry chef Lucile Haldric (including a sizeable birthday cake), and the crew will be whipping up limoncello spritzes made using Sarni’s own house-made limoncello.
