Anel Wessels has brought her signature community-driven hospitality to New Farm with This and That, a new cafe that blends a shape-shifting, produce-focused menu with the warmth that made her former spot, One Eighty Six Espresso Bar, so beloved. Opening just a week after closing her Auchenflower haunt, Anel was overwhelmed as loyal regulars travelled across town to support the new venue, which occupies the character-rich Brunswick Street cottage once home to A Cafe Called Kevin. Retaining much of the building’s original charm while upgrading the kitchen behind the scenes, This and That champions local suppliers through dishes like stracciatella caprese toast, nourishing salads, rotating sandwiches and seasonal specials, alongside coffee from Cavalier Coffee Roasters and tea from Tour De Tea. With its mantra of “Real food. Real simple. Real local.” guiding a menu that evolves daily, Anel hopes the cafe becomes a dependable everyday stop for locals and longtime fans alike.
