QAGOMA’s Art Box for Kids is a free, hands-on exhibition inviting children to explore creativity and culture through the work of Trawlwoolway/Pairabeenee and Laremairremenner (Tasmanian Aboriginal) artist Mandy Quadrio. Based in Brisbane, Mandy creates sculptural and mixed media works that reflect on her Lutruwita/Tasmanian heritage. Her ancestors used bull kelp for thousands of years to craft practical items, including water carriers. Inspired by this tradition, the activity Paper Treasure Carrier encourages children to make their own vessels for holding special objects. The space features examples made by Mandy, her grandchildren and local students, as well as one of her striking bull kelp artworks highlighting the impact of climate change.

Art Box for Kids is open daily at GOMA until Sunday October 26, no bookings are needed.
