Goolwal Goolwal returns to BIGSOUND this September with a dynamic, First Nations-led program that celebrates culture, creativity and connection. Meaning ‘big sound’ in traditional Yuggera language, the curated program of events and cultural experiences weaves through the BIGSOUND week with a packed line-up of live performances, panels, workshops and more – placing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices at the centre of Australia’s biggest music industry gathering.

At its heart is The Goolwal Garden – BIGSOUND’s dedicated First Nations space located at The Sound Garden. It’s a place to gather, connect and reflect. Downstairs pulses with live music, exclusive showcases and bold conversation, while upstairs offers a quieter space for workshops, art displays and a cuppa. Entry is free until 5:30 pm daily, with ticketed delegate events continuing into the night.

Following the Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony on Tuesday September 2 at the Brunswick Street Mall Stage, the program leaps into events like Gather & Graze (where you can mingle over Indigenous Australian cuisine) followed by a live performance by powerhouse duo Sistas of Goolwal. An electrifying selection of artists will take to the stage in the Blak Loud Showcase, while First Nations artists from remote Australia are given the spotlight in Bush Day Out. On Wednesday September 3, start the day with a free coffee and live tunes at Breakfast Beats, witness the dynamic Langwij with special guests, get hands-on in the Didgeridoo Workshop and enjoy a heartfelt yarn at the Blak Woman Sings: 3 Women, 3 Generations, 3 Genres panel.

There’s plenty more to discover in the Goolwal Goolwal program – head to the website to find your favourites.
