Brisbane’s most magical tradition returns as the Lord Mayor’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree officially kicks off the festive season in the heart of The City. On Friday November 28, gather in King George Square from 6:30 pm to watch Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner switch on Brisbane’s towering 22-metre Christmas tree – one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
The celebration will feature a special live performance by Dylan Wright, plus a jolly appearance from Santa and his dancing helpers, spreading festive cheer among the crowd. A tradition dating back to the 1950s, the lighting of the tree marks the start of the Christmas in Brisbane festivities, filling the city with sparkle and song. Gather your favourite people, strike a pose beneath the twinkling lights and make a night of it in The City.
