Colour-soaked creativity is taking over Brisbane Powerhouse, with renowned Brisbane artist Rachel Burke launching a vibrant year-long residency packed with craft workshops, performances and playful installations.
Running across 2026 and 2027, the residency will transform Brisbane Powerhouse into a tactile wonderland of handmade embellishments, nostalgic materials and joyful self-expression. Known for turning everyday objects and discarded treasures into maximalist wearable art and sculptural creations, Rachel’s colourful practice spans fashion, performance and participatory craft.
The residency program opens with Flower. Puppy. Show. from August 6–8, a surrealist live performance created alongside Patience Hodgson featuring handmade costumes, live music performances and a crafty activation inspired by vintage swap cards and beloved pups.
Workshops continue throughout the year, including Junk Jewelling in August, where discarded trinkets are transformed into bold wearable pieces, and Zine Making in October, exploring collage, drawing and DIY storytelling through handmade mini magazines.
Rosette and Badge Making lands in December, before the residency wraps with a retro-inspired Melty Bead Keychain Workshop in February 2027. Visitors can also shop Rachel’s handmade books, zines, badges and illustrated goodies at the Powerhouse Store throughout the program.
