Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, is putting the spotlight on music that broke the mould with Revolution Remixed, a program that brings together two works linked not by period and style, but by a shared impulse to disrupt tradition. Coming to Brisbane and Toowoomba this May, it’s all about hearing well-known pieces in a new way.

At the centre is Symphony No. 3 Eroica by Ludwig van Beethoven, widely regarded as the first truly modern symphony. Through Camerata’s lens, Eroica is fearlessly interpreted at chamber-scale intensity, led by artistic director Brendan Joyce. The orchestra will perform without a conductor, creating a more connected, in-the-moment experience between the musicians and the audience.

It’s paired with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, performed in a modern arrangement by Australian composer Julian Yu. The reimagining brings together 19th-century Romanticism and contemporary composition, with each section unfolding in a slightly different way to what audiences might expect.

Revolution Remixed takes place at QPAC Concert Hall on Friday May 29, before heading to The Empire Theatre in Toowoomba on Saturday May 30.
