Journey back thousands of years and uncover the mysteries of one of history’s most iconic civilisations at Discovering Ancient Egypt, now open at Queensland Museum. Featuring over 250 rare artefacts from the renowned Dutch National Museum of Antiquities, the exhibition brings to life the rich culture, beliefs and daily rituals of ancient Egypt. Spanning from 3700 BCE to the 15th century CE, the collection includes art, sculptures, fine jewellery, preserved letters, ancient board games, temple relics, intricately detailed funerary artefacts and even a papyrus scroll designed to guide a soul into the afterlife. With captivating insights into art, religion, the afterlife and everyday life in the land of the pyramids, Discovering Ancient Egypt offers a powerful and immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
On Friday 23 May, A Night at the Museum invites families to experience the exhibition after dark alongside activities like live drumming workshops, a simulated archaeological dig, origami crafting and a meet-and-greet with real-life Egyptologist Dr Serena Love. Dr Love also leads the Introduction to Ancient Egypt lecture series, held on Saturdays from May 24 to June 14, covering everything from pyramids and medicine to gardens and the Nile.
Art and design lovers can discover Egypt’s global influence at The Legacy of Ancient Egyptian Art & Architecture, a special evening talk on Thursday July 17, while budding artists can take part in Drawing the Australian White Ibis – a full-day illustration workshop on Saturday July 26 exploring the ibis’ connection to ancient Egypt.
