Jane Guthleben ‘IN THE STICKS’

Edwina Corlette Gallery presents IN THE STICKS, a new exhibition by Sydney-based artist Jane Guthleben, who reimagines the still life tradition through an Australian perspective. Drawing inspiration from the Dutch Golden Age vanitas genre, Jane replaces European blooms with native flora, birds and insects, capturing the vibrancy and texture of the local landscape. Her richly layered impasto paintings balance humour, symbolism and ecological reflection, creating compositions that appear both opulent and impossibly delicate. Through these works, Jane celebrates the beauty and fragility of the natural world while continuing her exploration of still life as a living, evolving form.
