A deeply moving theatrical experience is coming to Kingston Butter Factory this May, with Inheritance by acclaimed First Nations artist Toni Janke set to blend live music, storytelling and lived experience across two performances on Thursday May 28 and Saturday May 30.

Presented in recognition of National Reconciliation Week, Inheritance explores identity, resilience and the connections carried through generations, as Toni Janke invites audiences to reflect on what we inherit from those who came before us and what we choose to pass on. Framed around the metaphor of a ‘precious jewel’ handed down over time, the performance draws on stories, values and cultural knowledge that shape belonging and understanding.

Through heartfelt ballads, spoken word and acoustic soundscapes, Toni creates an immersive production grounded in both personal experience and universal themes. Audiences have praised Inheritance for its honesty, vulnerability and emotional depth, describing it as powerful, uplifting and heart-warming.

Toni Janke, a proud descendant of the Wuthathi, Yadhaigana and Meriam peoples, is joined on stage by a cast of musicians, actors and First Nations dancers, with the production weaving together music, movement and storytelling into a soulful theatrical experience.
