Hollywoodridge is Jake Moss’ debut solo exhibition at Mitchell Fine Art, presented as a film production timeline – spanning painting, sculpture, installation, video and sound. The exhibition unfolds as an autobiographical narrative of his childhood experience deeply influenced by scarcity, homelessness and fracture.
At first glance, the works are vibrant, inviting, and comical. On closer inspection, they reveal the intimate and unfiltered realities of Moss’ upbringing in public housing in Woodridge, Brisbane.
The exhibition draws on the mythology of Hollywood, a place Moss felt profoundly distant from in childhood, yet one that symbolised escape, possibility and transformation – collapsing the distance between glamour and reality, and weaving them into a narrative of creative ambition.
An exhibition opening will be held on Friday March 13 from 6:00–8:00 pm. Jake Moss invites his audience to break out the feathers and sequins al la Met Gala as he takes them on a red-carpet experience of ‘Hollywoodridge’.
An artist talk will be held from 11:00 am on Saturday March 21. Both events are free and no RSVP is required.
