South Bank Parklands will come alive on Friday August 1 as the LUMINOUS Lantern Parade returns to light up the night with colour, culture and connection. Presented by Multicultural Australia, this free, family-friendly event invites people of all backgrounds to gather in celebration – and marks the official launch of Multicultural Queensland Month.

From 5:30 pm, South Bank will pulse with music, dance and traditional performances, as community groups and artists showcase the many cultures that shape Queensland’s identity. The parklands will be filled with colour and celebration, with roving performers and live entertainment setting the tone for a dynamic celebration of identity and belonging.

As twilight falls, a parade of thousands of glowing lanterns will light the way through Little Stanley Street and along the Clem Jones Promenade, before arriving at the South Bank Piazza. Carried by schools, artists, community groups and new Queenslanders, the lanterns form a spectacular river of light in a glowing display of community connection. A high-energy music performance at the South Bank Piazza will close out the evening, bringing the celebration to a lively finale.
