Walking through the doors of Museum of Brisbane is about to feel a little more electric. As part of the Museum’s latest Artist in Residence program, Renee Kire has transformed the entryway into a vivid, immersive installation that unfolds across walls, ceilings and sightlines, setting the tone from the very first step inside.

A blend of bold vinyl graphics and sculptural timber forms creates a strong visual rhythm, guiding visitors forward through colour, repetition and carefully considered detail. The work draws from the traditions of Minimalism, reworked through a contemporary feminist lens that focuses on the contributions of women in the arts industry. It’s bright and inviting on the surface, with deeper layers revealing themselves the longer you spend with it.

Responding to the architecture of the Museum, Brisbane City Hall and the surrounding city, Renee Kire’s installation explores how abstract form can echo the built environment in surprising ways. Lines, shapes and patterns shift as you move, encouraging moments of pause and closer looking.

The residency extends beyond the installation itself, inviting the community to step into the creative process. On Thursday April 9 and Saturday April 11, free Creative Sculpture Workshops with Renee Kire offer a hands-on chance to experiment with form and colour. For those who prefer pencils, the City Hall Drawing Tour with Renee Kire (Saturday March 21 and March 28) provides a guided sketching experience, weaving together City Hall’s history and architecture with insight into Renee’s practice.
