Diving headfirst into death – the singular universal commonality – is contemporary performance art group The Farm. No One Gets Out of Here Alive is a visceral performance piece that takes the audience into the nature of death, beyond words.
But it’s not just the final, physical death that this Brisbane Festival world premiere unpacks. All of the little microdeaths that pervade the day-to-day – the death of dreams, past selves, or perhaps even a single act of theatre.
Stepping away from Western culture’s tight-lipped approach to what is considered a taboo topic, No One Gets Out of Here Alive interlaces dance, voice, and music with humour (and some audience participation) to create a space for grieving. For loved ones, for ourselves and for the planet, there are no holds barred.
By connecting with death, this play reminds the audience that they’re alive … but it doesn’t need to be a funeral.
Catch No One Gets Out of Here Alive at the Thomas Dixon Centre from Wednesday September 9 to Saturday September 12.
