Paniyiri, Queensland’s biggest cultural celebration and the country’s longest running Greek Festival, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with a packed program showcasing the sights, sounds and flavours of Greece.
Meaning “festival” in Greek, Paniyiri will once again take over Musgrave Park in South Brisbane from Saturday May 23 to Sunday May 24 to honour a history that began back in 1976. Starting as a simple celebration at The Greek Club, Paniyiri has grown into an annual two-day event that draws a crowd of more than 50,000 people every year.
This year’s event promises traditional dancing by The Hellenic Dancers, cooking demonstrations by celebrated chefs, wine tastings and the much-loved pop-up Greek village. Visitors can also find grape-stomping events, plate-smashing opportunities, Zorba dancing and more than 20 stalls toting authentic sweet and savoury dishes from multiple Greek regions.
As a not-for-profit event, Paniyiri raises funds for community groups and charities with every food and market stall run by the Greek community.
Tickets will go on sale from March 19 via the Paniyiri website.
