InReview’s very own Phil Brown will celebrate the launch of his latest memoir in conversation with popular culture writer Sean Sennett as part of Brisbane Writers Festival 2025. Confessions of a Minor Poet is the arts journalist’s hilarious and heartfelt memoir, showcasing his signature wit and existential observations.

On Thursday October 9, the pair will take over Brisbane Powerhouse’s Underground Theatre to discuss the memoir’s common themes, including Phil’s sensational literature and journalism career, his love of surfing and poetry, and his interactions with characters like Willem Dafoe, Daniel Craig and Alain de Botton.

For nearly forty years, Phil Brown has chronicled the arts in Australia and internationally, establishing himself as a respected voice in the field. His insightful work has appeared in publications including The Bulletin, The Daily Sun, The National Times, Griffith Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and more. His other works include two collections of poetry, Plastic Parables and An Accident in The Evening, along with memoirs Travels With My Angst, Any Guru Will Do and The Kowloon Kid. Formerly the Arts Editor of The Courier Mail,  Phil now spends his days writing as Editor at independent arts outlet, InReivew.
