Sharks, science and a splash of after-hours fun are on the cards when Science Night – Sharks with Dr Emily Lester takes over Queensland Museum’s SparkLab on Friday May 29.

This adults-only evening invites curious minds to dive into the fascinating world of sharks and coral reefs, and discover why these misunderstood predators are actually vital guardians of healthy oceans. Marine scientist Dr Emily Lester will unpack the surprising connections between sharks, reefs and the wider marine ecosystem, revealing how these powerful creatures help keep ocean life in balance.

A highlight of the night will see Dr Lester exploring SparkLab’s impressive Science on a Sphere – a glowing 1.8-m globe suspended from the ceiling that brings ocean systems and reef environments to life.

Expect live science experiments, music and a lively atmosphere throughout the evening, while a pop-up bar serves drinks and light snacks – it’s the perfect chance to sip, socialise and discover why protecting sharks matters more than ever in a changing ocean.

Guests will also have rare after-hours access to SparkLab’s interactive STEM playground. With more than 40 hands-on exhibits across three zones, the space invites visitors to experiment, play and get curious.

Be quick to book your tickets via the Queensland Museum website.
