Queensland Museum: Stories of Country

Step gently into the stories of connection, community strength and cultural vitality that have been told over thousands of generations at Queensland Museum’s latest gallery, Stories of Country.

Visitors are encouraged to connect with the wisdom, songlines and artistic expressions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have carried through time, and to witness how these ancient traditions continue to evolve.

Bringing together two powerful displays in one space, the museum presents the cultural heritage of the Laura community’s Quinkan Country, using large-scale projection and drone footage of Quinkan rock art, alongside NGURBAY/To Go Home – the story of a 150-year-old canoe finally being reunited with the Bagirbarra people.

Together, the two exhibitions create a respectful space for visitors to listen, reflect and engage with the stories, care and knowledge that traditional custodians hold for land, sea and sky – offering a moment to be still in time and be guided towards the future.
